Most students in London live in halls of residence for a year, before moving onto a cramped house-share.
However, for the world’s richest families, finding student accommodation for their sons and daughters is not only easy, it’s also an exercise in luxury.
80 Park Lane in Mayfair – one of the most affluent places in London – just went on the market with luxury estate agent Wetherelland is targeted at accommodating wealthy foreign students.
While the property is worth £12.5 million, Wetherell says the owners are only focused on renting it out, rather than selling. It is perhaps unsurprising because the owners are asking £4,000 per week in rent. This works out at £16,000 per month and £192,000 per year in rent.
Wetherell told Business Insider that 80% of the enquiries have come from students from the Gulf region aged 16-21 and that the advertised rent is “standard student digs rent money to them.”
Lets take a look inside the three-bedroom property:
80 Park Lane in Mayfair is the only house with its own private front door on Park Lane.
It overlooks 350 acres of the famous Hyde Park and is next to all the most luxurious shops, eateries, and is even near Buckingham Palace. Here is what it is like from the roof terrace.
The newly completed 3,540 square feet pad is so enormous, the main lobby (pictured here) is bigger than most people's homes in not just London, but also across the UK.
Naturally, the luxury pad is complete with a 24-hour concierge.
Inside is an architectural wonder. The entrance hall is surrounded by glass including a glass floor and glass ceiling which makes the house look even bigger than it is.
Wetherell says that the glass floor was created from double layer of wedge shaped, 5 inch thick slabs of structural glass supported on beams, to give a dramatic view of the grand reception room below.
The annual rent equates to seven times the average annual UK salary of £27,600, at £192,000.
As you can tell, no expense was spared in furnishing the house.
Not only is lounge enormous, it has air-conditioning, underfloor heating, start-of-the-art home entertainment, and security systems.
There is glass leading throughout the property to make the property even more decadent.
The bathrooms would not be out of place at a palace. They have a bath and walk in shower room, finished in stone wall and floor tiles, with floor and wall feature lighting.
Inside the bedrooms, everything is sumptuous and plush.
The master bedroom suite has a walk in dressing room with bespoke shelving and a master bathroom.
And the guest bedrooms (here is one out of two) are just as luxurious with soft furnishing and an ensuite bathroom.
And of course, the kitchen has a fully fitted designer kitchen and 10 seat dining area. There is also a stone topped-central island with a breakfast bar.
